SUSPENSION PICTURES

1969 Ford Mustang Convertible

This part that is still in process, but hopefully near the end.  I started out to just modify the stock suspension a bit, but in the end have installed 13" Baer Brakes, proportioning valve, large front and rear sway bars, RRS Rack & Pinion, and added 5 leaf rear springs.  Just put new Edelbrock gas shocks on it in place of the KYB's and I can't tell you how much of an improvement it made.  I would like to go to a tubular front a-arm with coil-over shocks in the future, and hopefully someday also get rid of the rear leaf springs.  You can't get by with replacing the steering mechanism with a Rack without addressing the Bump-Steer problems associated with having the steering arms at different angles.  When you get it right, the car drives like a dream.  Otherwise..........you fight it all the way down the road.

                         All the old parts.

Here is how you modify the mounts to lower the rack to clear the headers.  Trust me.......all combinations are different and be prepared for some fabrication.

Here is how clean the compartment gets without the power steering pump, lines and belt.

Here is the RRS rack installed with the Baer Bump Steer kit.

Picture of the car prior to putting the 5 leaf rear springs on with Mid-eye mount.  Sat up really high in the back.  This shot is after lowering the front a-arms.

Here's how it sat after changing the rear leaf springs.  I went for a uniform height all around.  Car sits 25 5/8" from ground to chrome wheel well moulding.

Contour coil springs, new a-arms, ball-joints, spring saddles and lowered a-arms.
